Road Safety campaign uses Bluetooth

I read today about an interesting campaign that took place in Ireland, in a road safety event.

For the first time ever in Ireland, road safety video clips were sent directly to mobile phones of the crowds attending the Driver’s Challenge on Sunday last, using the latest Bluetooth technology. Mayo County Council Road Safety Officer, Noel Gibbons, stressed that the clip was sent to pedestrians only. A small radio transmitter sent out a text message which was picked up by anyone with a Bluetooth connection as they entered the racecourse.

...

Mr Gibbons feels that the Bluetooth campaign is new, innovative and will make a real difference. “Once accepted the clip showing young people travelling in car is interrupted as a text message is received. After checking the message, the clip resumes to show what happens when drivers are distracted. The message ‘one distraction is all it takes’ then appears,” he said. Mr Gibbons said he hopes the clip will be circulated across the county in such areas as cinema foyers.

What I really like here, and I find especially interesting, is that they used the mobile phone to convey the message that the mobile phone itself can be the distraction that can lead to an accident. Neat.
Now combine that with the power of a multimedia presentation of your message (i.e. video) and the directness of bluetooth that allows you to get in virtually every mobile phone, and you've got an instant winner!
