Social Networking on the go

Today, I downloaded the mobile application from Aka-Aki. This is another social networking site, but with a twist. They provide you with an application that you can download on your mobile phone, and it allows you to view the profiles of the people around you (assuming of course they have created one on their website). It basically uses the Bluetooth on your mobile phone to discover other bluetooth-enabled devices around you, wherever you are, and if any of these are linked to an online profile, you can view it there and then.

The drawback, however, is that it still needs to use a GPRS/3G connection on the mobile phone, and the target audience (mainly the young population), that is into bluetooth dating/networking, does not easily adopt things that cost them money.

It sounds very interesting and promising, although admittedly I haven't tried it out in the real world yet, and I am curious to see if there's anyone I will actually be able to "see"..

Oh, and I wonder how long before Facebook pick up on this, or follow in their steps!
