Bluetooth becoming less power-hungry

One of the main problems with people having Bluetooth always turned on is the battery consumption. This has been a problem with the technology right from the start, and still remains as such. In a world where our mobile devices are our necessary company wherever we go (and sometimes the only company we take with us), keeping our mobiles running and juiced up is a big concern.

A lot of people use Bluetooth regularly, but sometimes, usually when their battery is low, or when they set off on a long trip, where they won't have access to a power plug for a while, sacrifice their connectivity options for prolonged battery life. In some cases people also do this to avoid having to charge their mobile phones too often.

This is what the people at Bluetooth Special Interest Group are now trying to change, so we'll be able to enjoy wireless connectivity and communication for longer, by turning Bluetooth into a low
energy technology, according to this article:

Anders Edlund, marketing director for the Bluetooth Special Interest Group in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said over the next five to ten years the technology will be able to support more applications.

"The biggest advancements will be in the low energy domain, there are many new applications due out next year," he continued.

Regarding the incorporation of Near Field Communication, he added: "It reduces the number of steps needed to make a connection so it's a lot easier to support."

I can't wait!
