Krispy Kreme Bluetooth Marketing Campaign

Ok, this one is somewhat old news, but I liked the idea of presenting a bluetooth marketing campaign from the point of view of a participant. I was able to find this blog post, which essentially describes the proximity marketing campaign for us:

I always pass by the Ayala-Paseo underpass in Makati. A few weeks ago, I noticed the advertisement of Blue Zone. It says that you just have to turn on your bluetooth and you’ll receive a surprise. And for their first surprise, you’ll receive a free Krispy Kreme coupon.

So just last Friday, i turned on my phone’s bluetooth and after a few seconds a got a message informing me i’m receiving a file. After making sure its really from Blue Zone I accepted and got two image files - the coupon and logo of Krispy Kreme.

The campaign combines very successfully some key ingredients for a successful proximity marketing campaign. It:

  • provides some value to the end user, by offering a freebie,
  • notifies participants as to the existence of the service, encouraging passers-by to turn on their bluetooth to receive a surprise.
I didn't manage to find any results from the campaign, but I would be most interested in learning the outcomes; if someone knows, please drop me a line, or leave a comment below.

This is an excellent use for bluetooth marketing as it gives the receiver a real reason to accept the message. In the UK, NextGen Bluetooth Marketing ( http://www.nextgenbluetoothmarketing.co.uk ) are working with many retailers in these difficult times to maximise their advertising budgets. Expect more Uk bluetooth advertising this year as companies like Nextgen really take off

Sorry Steve, your comment flew under my radar, and I forgot to reply..

But it's interesting what you say.. Are you saying retailers in the U.K. turn to mobile marketing more so now -- during the crisis -- than in the past?

In the current climate, UK business is trying every which way to get people through the door. The advantage of bluetooth marketing is no message charge or cost of printing etc. Its becoming more popular now as companies think outside of the box somewhat

    Thanks for sharing..

A lot of marketers tend to think there is a slump in interest in mobile marketing, but I dare say I am seeing a bit of the opposite.

Sure, there is a decline in inquiries from new potential customers, but I think that the companies that look for mobile marketing solutions these days have realised how much benefit it can offer them, and are thus better leads for turning into real customers.

I'm not saying the credit crunch has not hurt the mobile marketing sector, just that it's not as bad as other business sectors... What do you think?

I am sure that the marketers are searching for a cheap and at the same time efficient marketing and advertising medium. I think only internet and mobile marketing can provide this currently. So be alerted, they may invest some money to mobile marketing the next months. Think that investing a relatively small amount of money can have a decent mobile marketing campaign. If you compare with legacy media like radio, tv and press the cost is enormously lower. I am very curious to know if the global economic crisis will do good or bad to the mobile marketing. We'll see!

Mobile marketing is a unique medium, and campaigns should be developed and planned with that in mind. The mobile medium has its own unique set of interactions and learned behaviors.TXTimpact Messages sent to a mobile phone are much more likely to be read than e-mail sent to a PC, which may get routed to a spam folder, Strother adds.mobile marketing
