Now I know you don't all have kids yet, and I know that even those of you that do wouldn't rely on a blog post to find out when to buy them a tablet (not this one anyway - sorry!).
Still the following infographic has some pretty interesting info about when parents think they should / would / have already bought their children tablets or smartphones.

And here is the Press Release that went along with it:

Encino, CA, October 26, 2011 - As mobile technology continues to evolve and impact many aspects of our society, parents are presented with the tough decision of when their child should receive their first cell phone, smartphone or tablet. SodaHead.com, the web's largest opinion based community, today unveiled the results of a poll which indicates that the majority of respondents (54 percent) believe that children should receive their first cell phone between the ages of 13 and 15, while 24 percent feel that children 12 and under should have a phone, and 22 percent think that the first phone should be placed in a child's hands when they are 16 or older.

SodaHead has created an infographic with the poll results, available at: http://images.sodahead.com/profiles/002005279/sodahead-cell-phone-infographic-59473054819.png

When High-End Gadgets Are Appropriate For Children?

So when should children receive high-end gadgets such as smartphones and tablets? That's one of many burning questions among parents across the country. According to SodaHead respondents, most feel that kids should wait until they are 16 or older for these "fancier," more expensive tech products. Specifically, 67 percent of respondents feel that tablets - including the Apple iPad2 - should not be given to children until they are 16, while 66 percent feel that smartphones can also wait until 16. Only 6 percent feel that kids under 12 should get a smartphone, while 12 percent think that it is OK for those under 12 to get a tablet.

"SodaHead's rich data has revealed some interesting and unexpected findings among parents and teens regarding the use of today's hottest technology products," said Chris Dominquez, CEO of SodaHead. "We understand that the issue of when children should receive phones and tablets is important to parents, and we hope this data provided by SodaHead will help guide them in their decision making process."

What Married With Children vs . Singles Think?

Additional information from the poll indicated that parents - and those that are married - are more than twice as likely as singles to feel that kids should wait until they are 16 to get their first cell phone. The poll shows 33 percent of parents feel that 16 is the right age for a phone, while only 17 percent of singles express that a child should have to wait until 16.

Teens Turn Down Tablets, Really?

Surprisingly, 64 percent of teen respondents felt that fellow teenagers should wait until they are 16 to get their first tablet. But as expected, only 8 percent of teens feel that they should have to wait until 16 for their first cell phone. The most amazing of all is the figure about the face-time. I am not sure if facebook is the reason but it is a bit disappointing to see that parents don't spend much time with their children anymore. I don't want to be emotional here but I am sure this is a sign about what are our society's values these days.
