IKEA gets personal on YouTube

Home furnishing experts IKEA has today launched the first ever personalised 3D showroom on YouTube. Drawing on information from Facebook, IKEA’s tool creates a bespoke 3D bedroom that can then be explored and tailored by users to create their perfect bedroom.

Customers will be shown an IKEA bedroom that will perfectly suit them based on their own Facebook information and living situation by visiting www.youtube.com/IKEAUK. IKEA has even gone to the trouble of hanging photos of customers’ loved ones on the walls to ensure they really do experience their perfect bedroom environment. Other features in the 3D showroom include the ability to see detailed product information and to click through to IKEA.co.uk to purchase any home furnishings featured within the bedroom.

The personalised 3D showroom forms part of a wider bedrooms campaign by IKEA and follows a UK wide study of over 2million people into how Britons live life at home. The 3D showroom creates bedroom experiences based on insight drawn from the study including:
  • Creating bedrooms that support TV and internet for those most likely to use it.
  • Incorporating workspace to reflect the growing trend of working in the bedroom.
  • Smart storage solutions to address the decline in living space across the United Kingdom.
  • Helping customers see the potential to create a happier space in their bedrooms for a better night’s sleep.

IKEA have used the results as part of a £2.5million investment into redesigning the bedroom roomsets in stores across the country. The redesigns will ensure all IKEA bedroom roomsets are locally relevant, specifically reflect the way people live their life at home and showcase the solutions that help people go to bed happy.

Carole Reddish, deputy UK & Ireland country manager for IKEA says: “We want to be the experts in truly understanding peoples’ needs, wants and dreams to help them live a happier life at home. So we understand that every bedroom is unique, it is a space that needs to fulfil so many roles; for some it’s a place to work, for some a sanctuary, above all though the bedroom is a place to sleep. This tool uses design, inspiration and lifestyle to show what’s possible when creating the room of your dreams, ultimately helping you go to bed happy.
Charlotte Morton from Google's Creative Agency Partnerships team says: “This is an innovative use of social media illustrating what is possible on YouTube for a creative brand like IKEA. We're excited to be part of such a forward-thinking campaign.”

The guys over at Tatango recently ran a survey across 500 U.S. consumers and asked them about their experience with SMS marketing and put the results in an infographic.

Ok, granted, the number of consumers isn't huge, but also not one to be ignored! (And I also think it's more likely that they actually did run the survey with this number of participants than others who claim tens of thousands... )

mHealth: Using SMS Reminders for Healthcare Workers, NOT Patients

0

Written on Wednesday, August 24, 2011

Just came across this pretty interesting use case for SMS reminders in mHealth: instead of being used as reminders to patients, they are being used to assist healthcare workers!
Most randomised controlled trials from high-income countries have focused on reminders to improve patients' adherence to treatment, and all studies assessed only short-term effects of the intervention. This is believed to be the first study to assess the use of text messaging to target the behaviour of health workers.

Examples of the actual messages:

For five working days, two text messages (one at 9am and one at 2pm) were sent daily to every health worker's mobile phone. The same process was repeated every week for six months. The messages included both information from the guidelines and inspirational quotes. For example:
  • Message one (Monday morning): Check ALL sick children <5yrs for any severe signs! Also check for fever, cough, diarrhea, pallor & any other problem. Quote: "Persistent work triumphs"
  • Message two (Monday afternoon): Child has FEVER when complained by mother or child is hot or Temp is >=37•5 - Pls ask mother, touch child & take Temp! Quote: "Actions speak louder than words"
  • Message three (Tuesday morning): TREAT with AL* all children under 5yrs weighing >=5kg coming with FEVER for first visit & without severe signs. Quote: "Opportunity seldom knocks twice"
*Artemether-lumefantrine, the recommended anti-malarial.

Dr Zurovac and colleagues believe the scheme may have been successful because text-message reminders address health workers' forgetfulness, emphasise the clinical importance of doing tasks described in the messages, and increase the priority of doing the tasks because the text messages represent the voice of authority of the health workers' employer (the Ministry of Health).

Low-cost solution

The simplicity and low cost of text messaging means that widespread implementation of an intervention that uses this technology can be done quickly and successfully. For example, the cost of a text message in Kenya is about US$0.01, resulting in the cost of full exposure to the intervention of $2.6 per health worker, or $39,000 if scaled up to an estimated 15,000 health workers in all rural facilities nationwide.

Mobile marketing strategies: How to drive mobile traffic

3

Written on Tuesday, August 23, 2011

Today's post is a contribution from Amanda W. Kidd, a fellow blogger who was kind enough to share her view on how to drive mobile traffic to your site:
Mobile marketing is one of the most viable strategies to sell your products and services. In order to drive more traffic to your business and create huge sales you need to consider various marketing strategies.
If you are planning to go mobile and increase your sales, you need to take a look at some of the mobile marketing strategies to drive mobile traffic:

Landing page

First, you need to develop a landing page that is mobile optimized. It should be well displayed on the screens of the mobile devices and smartphones. What you have to keep in mind is that there should not be any distractions to the viewing of the landing page. It should contain elements like image, call-to-action and provision to collect the user data.

Collecting user data

With the data, you should be able to build a mobile optimized database, a very big by-product of the mobile marketing. The database is very important. Ensure that you have the facility added so that you can create it easily. The database is something that can be used for promoting all your business related developments, offers and other communications.
Once the customers opt-in for some information regarding your products and services, they are redirected immediately to a page where they can get the required information. The page may also help them to use the actual sign-up form for your products and services. Remember to provide your contact information in your mobile website just in case they are in need of some specific information about your business or products.

Social Media Link

Other ways of driving traffic include incorporating Social Media. Provide your offer on the popular platforms like YouTube, Twitter and Facebook etc. Most of the people access these websites through their mobiles. They may easily come to know about your products through these websites. SMS text message is also one of the powerful strategies to drive opt-ins. The most effective of all is Google Adwords. The mobile version of this marketing strategy by Google is known as Admob, which is similar to the Adwords version. By creating an Admob account you will be able to start your mobile marketing to mobiles users anywhere in the world. You will however require having mobile optimized landing pages for Admob to be effective.

There are various other reasons to choose the mobile marketing strategies. It offers ultimate on-to-one communication that prompts for immediate action and lead generation.
In today’s world where everything is going mobile, choosing mobile marketing strategies are more effective for driving the sales of your business because it enables for one-to-one communication that is faster than other traditional marketing methods. With the mobile world getting bigger and wider, it is easier to target the customers through this media, keep them informed about the latest developments and get the response immediately.
Keeping in touch with the customers increases the chances of lead generation and sales conversion. By following these simple mobile marketing strategies you will be able to drive more mobile traffic to your mobile website and take your business to greater levels of success.

Interactive Out-Of-Home Marketing Campaign for CSI Clone Series

ATTENTION CSI (clones) fans: this article is for you! Read it – you’ll want to have been there!
Pearl Media, in an attempt to promote its CSI-like series, launched a pretty cool interactive out-of-home marketing campaign, where consumers were invited to solve a crime scene from TNT's drama series Rizzoli & Isles.

As consumers walked by the 100-foot display, they saw a 3D crime scene, filled with evidence, through the storefront windows. An interactive video wall served as the investigation headquarters, allowing consumers to dust for fingerprints, survey the scene of the crime, review DNA tests and view an autopsy report.
At a New York City location, Pearl Media deployed an interactive crime scene where consumers are tasked with helping Rizzoli & Isles’ detective Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and medical examiner Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander) solve a murder case. As consumers walk by the 100-foot display, they will see a 3D crime scene through the windows of the storefront. The detailed build-out features a taped-off crime scene filled with an array of evidence, including open pill bottles, footprints and fingerprints, as well as a sheeted corpse in the center of the scene.

An interactive video wall serves as the investigation headquarters, allowing consumers to dust for fingerprints, survey the scene of the crime, review DNA tests and view an autopsy report. Using state-of-the-art Touch Interactive Technology, pedestrians also learn about the motives and whereabouts of three potential suspects and ultimately solve the crime. Throughout the interactive process, the clues revealed by each forensic test are illuminated inside the crime scene, providing an interactive consumer experience between the actual crime scene and the interactive video wall used to solve the crime.

Once the crime is solved, users are awarded with a photo of themselves with the stars of Rizzoli & Isles, which is then displayed on the storefront window. From the shop window, consumers then have the ability to share their photos with friends via Facebook.

Pretty cool marketing campaign if you ask me...
