The Rise Of Business SMS [INFOGRAPHIC]

Even with the likes of person-to-person messaging services like iMessage (now also available on the Mac) and BBM, SMS is still live and kicking, and I don't see it going anywhere just yet! (And for at least as long as not everyone can afford an iPhone, Mac or Blackberry, etc.)

A good reason behind this is that beyond its use for person-to-person communication, SMS is also an ideal medium for broadcasting a promotional message. This application-to-person type of messaging (a.k.a. SMS Marketing) is still very big these days and constantly growing.

The latest infographic from TextMarketer, presents the types of businesses that make the most use of SMS Marketing as a tool for business, some general statistics on the size of the Mobile Marketing sector and the main reasons why SMS is still perhaps the most important mobile marketing tools.

A really good infographic I came across recently, presenting a historical overview of the various mobile app stores.

The history starts in 2008 when the Apple App Store launched, with just 500 apps, to today with billions of apps downloaded so far - more than the whole population on Earth today.

Some Mobile Marketing Stats for Brazil

Written on Wednesday, February 08, 2012 by Giorgos Saslis

Following a couple of discussions at work about the state of mobile marketing in Latin America, I looked around to see if I could find any studies with stats I can use for presentations.

As is always the case, you have to look at each country separately so I started, obviously, I guess, with Brazil..

...not long after I came across this post on the Mobile Marketing Magazine
The Brazil Business has produced a video covering the state of mobile marketing in Brazil – revealing that, with 220m devices and a population of 192m, there are more mobiles than people. 80 per cent of the mobile devices are on pre-paid tariffs – meaning that the reach of mobile internet isn't huge, and that the focus is primarily on SMS marketing.

iPad Augmented Reality Window Shopping for Net-A-Porter

Hello again everybody and my apologies for the radio silence...
The Mobile World Congress in Barcelona is fast approaching and preparations are at their peak -- meaning.. no time for the blog!

Here's a quick one (but - to make up for it - it's a really cool one) for today, where Net-A-Porter created an augmented reality window shopping campaign (using iPads):
To celebrate Fashion's Night Out, NET-A-PORTER created a pop-up store that visitors could shop and win prizes from using a specially created app for their Smartphone or iPad 2. Watch the video to find out how it worked...

A great example of corporate marketing embracing mobile as a medium. If there is just an app you can download on your phone it makes this just perfect!
